Après une année loin des tatamis, le taekwondoïste nigérien Issoufou Alfaga Abdoulrazak a renoué avec la victoire. Lors de l’Open d’Afrique de Taekwondo organisé ce weekend en Egypte, il décroche la médaille d’or dans sa catégorie des plus de 87 kilos. Le champion du monde 2017 se rapproche un peu plus des JO 2020 avec pour objectif l’or olympique.
L’icône nationale du taekwondo a encore fait parler la foudre en Egypte ce samedi 23 février. Issoufou Alfaga Abdoulrazak a dominé sa catégorie des + 87 kg lors de l’Open africain de la discipline. Il s’offre la plus belle des médailles, l’or. Heureux alors qu’il sort d’une année compliquée pendant laquelle il n’a pas pu compétir, Alfaga Abdoulrazak a tweeté « c’est le Niger qui gagne. Merci à tous pour le soutien » et annonce son retour « Alfaga is Back » tout en ajoutant le hashtag JO2020.
Le Taekwondoïste ne l’a jamais caché. Son objectif affiché est de conquérir l’or des Jeux Olympiques de Tokyo l’année prochaine. Il l’annonçait déjà alors qu’en 2016, il entrait dans l’histoire du sport nigérien en décrochant une médaille aux JO après celle en bronze du boxeur Issaka Dabore en 1972, à Munich. Alfaga Abdoulrazak avait fini vice-champion olympique. « Je suis déçu, j’avais promis l’or, c’est comme ça. La lutte continue jusqu’à Tokyo 2020 », confiait-t-il au Brésil.
Il s’est rattrapé entre temps devenant en 2017 en Corée du Sud, Champion du Monde de Taekwondo, mais il ne perd jamais son objectif de vue. L’or olympique. Son entraîneur allemand Markus Kohlöffel indique que son poulain est programmé pour les JO de Tokyo en 2020.
Des Jeux pendant lesquels, le champion multimédaillé, s’attèlera, comme à son habitude, à porter très haut le drapeau nigérien.
