A la tête de la Force conjointe du G5 Sahel depuis 3 mois, le Général de brigade, Namata Oumarou, est optimiste quant aux capacités du G5 Sahel à venir à bout du terrorisme dans l’espace sahélien. En marge des travaux de la 6e session ordinaire du conseil des ministres de l’organisation à Ouagadougou, il a accordé un entretien à nos confrères burkinabés du journal Sidwaya.
Selon le Général, la Force conjointe est plutôt une initiative récente pour répondre à un phénomène d’ampleur internationale mais ancien. A l’échelle mondiale, les armées les plus puissantes ne parviennent pas à triompher complètement de cette menace asymétrique. Il faut donc être prudent et réaliste. Il n’y a pas de solution miracle contre le terrorisme. Nous poursuivons notre travail dans la continuité du labeur accompli par nos prédécesseurs et sous les directives concertées du comité défense et sécurité qui regroupe les chefs d’états-majors des cinq pays. Et de rappeler que les forces de sécurité et de défense de nos Etats jouent leur rôle, mais elles sont parfaitement conscientes du fait que la réponse militaire est l’une des composantes d’une stratégie politique plus large. C’est un combat global comme en témoigne les autres initiatives du G5 qui se déploient afin d’améliorer la sécurité des Sahéliens pour qu’ils puissent se concentrer sur l’essentiel : la lutte pour une prospérité partagée dans un vaste espace de 5 millions de km2 où vivent près de 80 millions d’habitants, a-t-il souligné.
Quant aux actions déjà menées sur le terrain, le chef de la force conjointe du G 5 Sahel, soutiendra : « de sa mise en place à ce jour, la Force conjointe totalise 17 opérations majeures avec des résultats. Je citerai la toute récente opération, celle qui a eu lieu sur le fuseau Est (dans le Nord du Niger, NDLR) dénommée opération Amande 2 et qui a permis de saisir 16 fusils mitrailleurs, dont 3 de précision, 3 lunettes de tir dont une à laser, plus de 3 000 cartouches tout calibres confondus, des roquettes et des grenades, plus un véhicule. »
Et de marteler que si les terroristes semblent gagner du terrain, c’est beaucoup plus parce que les gens sont frappés par la campagne d’intoxication dont les terroristes sont passés maîtres. Mais il y a lieu de relativiser les choses. Ces troupes que vous appelez étrangères sont chez nous, il faut l’avouer, à notre demande. Mais malgré la forte volonté d’agir sur le terrain contre un ennemi commun et d’autre part un fort engouement international, la force conjointe du G5 Sahel reste encore bien jeune et poursuit toujours sa montée en puissance. Elle n’est pour autant pas en reste dans le combat général engagé contre le terrorisme et le crime organisé qui gangrènent l’espace sahélo-saharien comme en témoignent les derniers résultats engrangés.
