Le gouvernement nigérien a lancé ce samedi au Centre de santé intégré du quartier Dar-Salam de Niamey, une campagne nationale de prévention du paludisme qui devra toucher près de cinq millions d’enfants âgés de trois à cinquante-neuf mois.
« Cette stratégie de contrôle du paludisme a pour objectif de réduire l’incidence de la maladie pour la tranche d’âge de 3 à 59 mois », a indiqué une note de la direction de la communication du ministère de la santé publique et des affaires sociales du ministre Idi Illiassou Mainassara.
« La période de juin, juillet, août et septembre correspond à la saison des pluies au Niger, caractérisée par une forte densité de moustiques et par conséquent un nombre élevé d’épisodes de paludisme surtout chez les enfants », a ajouté la même source, précisant que la campagne sera menée dans 67 des 72 districts sanitaires que compte le Niger et touchera 4 millions 811 mille 757 enfants âgés de 3 à 59 mois.
« Cette campagne est séquencée en trois, quatre ou cinq passages espacés d’un mois. Au cours de chaque passage, chaque enfant cible du programme recevra trois (03) doses dont la première est administrée le premier jour en présence du distributeur et les deux autres sont remises aux parents pour leur administration à domicile le deuxième et troisième jour suivant la première dose », a précisé la note du ministère.
Selon les statistiques du ministère de la santé publique et des affaires sociales, en 2021 le Niger a enregistré 4 millions 937 mille 676 cas de paludisme, dont 4 mille 182 décès. En 2022 le pays a enregistré 4 millions 844 mille 731 cas dont 5 mille 580 décès.
