Dans un discours prononcé à l’occasion de l’anniversaire de l’indépendance du Niger (3 août 1960), le président Mahamadou Issoufou a salué vendredi les « succès » de l’armée et des forces alliées dans la « lutte contre le terrorisme » au Sahel et exhorté les États de la région « à affiner leurs stratégies ».
Les opérations conjointes menées par les forces de défense nigériennes et les forces alliées françaises et américaines ont été « couronnée de succès » selon le président Mahamadou Issoufou.
Il a aussi fait le point sur l’action de la force mixte multinationale qui opère dans le bassin du lac Tchad et de la force anti-jihadiste du G5 Sahel : « la mutualisation des forces opérées s’avère être efficace dans la lutte contre les groupes terroristes et criminels. »
Pourtant, le chef d’État nigérien estime que « la monté en puissance de la force conjointe du G5 Sahel doit être accélérée » et que la recherche de financements doit être « renforcée ». « Il est évident que pour être efficace la lutte contre le terrorisme doit connaître la même priorité au niveau de l’ensemble de la communauté internationale. »
Car en « dépit des opérations militaires », « Boko Haram fait preuve d’une résilience » inquiétante dans la région du lac Tchad, selon Mahamadou Issoufou.
