Les routes nigériennes sont toujours aussi mortelles. Courant l’année 2018, c’est environ 900 personnes qui ont succombé dans des cas d’accidents. Ce sont les chiffres rendus publics par le ministre des transports M. Mamadou Karidjo à l’occasion de la 8ème journée africaine de la sécurité routière en marge à la célébration de la journée internationale des victimes des accidents de la circulation routière.
A en croire le bilan macabre rendu public, 6 428 cas d’accidents corporels de la route ont étév enregistrés au Niger au cours de l’année 2018 selon les autorités. Les blessés graves sont estimés à 3 263. Le Ministre des Transports précise que les victimes de ces accidents sont majoritairement les jeunes dont l’âge est compris entre 20 et 39 ans. Ils constituent à eux seuls plus de 67% de victimes.
Plusieurs facteurs sont à la base de cette tragédie, le non-respect du code de la route, des défaillances mécaniques, l’imprudence, l’intolérance, l’impatience ou encore la surcharge des véhicules. En dépit des interminables contrôles routiers par la gendarmerie et la police, le risque des accidents peut aussi s’expliquer par le non-respect des priorités des passages en majorité par ces jeunes qui utilisent les engins à deux roues avec un excès de vitesse. A cela s’ajoute le mauvais état des routes.
