L’opposant sénégalais Ousmane Sonko, détenu depuis fin juillet sous divers chefs d’inculpation dont appel à l’insurrection, a annoncé mardi reprendre sa grève de la faim qu’il avait arrêtée début septembre.
Candidat à la présidentielle de février 2024, M. Sonko, 49 ans, troisième de la présidentielle de 2019, accuse le président Macky Sall, qui s’en défend, de vouloir l’écarter du scrutin par des procédures judiciaires. M. Sall, élu en 2012 pour sept ans et réélu en 2019 pour cinq ans, a annoncé début juillet ne pas se représenter.
« Nous ne pouvons que recourir aux moyens de résistance que notre situation actuelle permet. C’est pourquoi j’ai décidé de reprendre ma grève de la faim« , a déclaré l’opposant sur sa page Facebook et X (ex-Twitter).
L’homme politique veut par cette décision marquer sa « solidarité » avec les autres militants « injustement arrêtés pour avoir exprimé leurs opinions politiques », détenus, et aujourd’hui privés, pour certains, « de tout contact avec leurs proches » pour avoir mené une grève de la faim.
Il souhaite aussi « protester contre (sa) détention arbitraire et électoraliste, et celle de centaines de patriotes, et en exiger la fin », écrit-il dans son message. Sa reprise de grève de la faim a été confirmée par Me Clédor Ly, l’un de ses avocats.
Vendredi, un magistrat d’un tribunal d’instance de Ziguinchor (sud) a ordonné que M. Sonko soit rétabli sur les listes électorales dont il a été radié, ouvrant une nouvelle page dans le feuilleton judiciaire qui l’oppose à l’Etat et tient le Sénégal en haleine depuis deux ans et demi.
Ce rétablissement permettrait a priori à M. Sonko, écroué depuis fin juillet après des mois d’épreuve de force avec le gouvernement et la justice, d’espérer concourir à la présidentielle. Mais sa candidature est encore loin d’être garantie.
Après une condamnation pour diffamation contre un ministre, M. Sonko a été déclaré coupable le 1er juin de débauche de mineure et condamné à deux ans de prison ferme. Ayant refusé de se présenter au procès, il a été condamné par contumace puis radié des listes.
Il a été écroué fin juillet sous d’autres chefs d’inculpation, dont appel à l’insurrection, association de malfaiteurs en lien avec une entreprise terroriste et atteinte à la sûreté de l’Etat.
Il avait entamé une grève de la faim qu’il avait, selon ses proches, terminé le 2 septembre pour répondre aux appels émanant notamment de chefs religieux très influents au Sénégal, après avoir été admis en service de réanimation dans un hôpital.
Les autorités sénégalaises avaient mis en doute cette grève de la faim.
