Le Président de la République Issoufou Mahamadou a présidé ce mercredi 22 mai dans la salle du conseil, une réunion sur la sécurité avec les ambassadeurs de France et des Etats Unis.
L’objectif de cette rencontre est de mutualiser les forces en vue de combattre toutes les formes de menace terroriste au Niger et dans la Sous région.
A leur sortie après cette rencontre, l’ambassadeur des Etats Unis, Eric Whitaker a estimé que c’est à l’appel du Président de la République, que « je suis ici en compagnie des membres de l’ambassade des Etats Unis et de mon homologue français pour une réunion importante au cours de laquelle il est question de la situation sécuritaire actuelle au Niger ».
« Nous avons discuté de l’acte terroriste de la semaine dernière et de la manière dont les Etats Unis et les autres partenaires de la sécurité, notamment nos homologues français pour aider le gouvernement et le peuple nigérien à assurer la sécurité à tous les niveaux », a-t-il poursuivi.
Le diplomate américain a aussi indiqué que « Nous nous sommes engagés à apporter notre soutien continu à travers une approche coordonnée consistant à un appui dans le domaine de la diplomatie, du développement et de la défense. La sécurité et la stabilité étant les conditions préalables pour l’aide humanitaire et développement économique à long terme, nous continuerons à former et à équiper les forces de défense et de sécurité nigériennes pour renforcer leurs capacités face aux menaces actuelles y compris celles posées par des groupes terroristes ».
Selon M. Whitaker, en ce mois-ci le « Département d’Etat des Etats Unis a identifié les groupes terroristes impliqués parmi les ‘’Specially Designated Global Terrorists’’ ».
Il convient également de mentionné que le Niger « doit lutter contre les contrebandes, et les autres formes de criminalités qui facilitent la présence de tels groupes terroristes en particulier dans les zones où la présence de sécurité est limitée », a laissé entendre l’ambassadeur américain.
Les Etats Unis soulignent l’importance du G5 Sahel et de sa force conjointe, « en tant qu’organe régional et continueront à l’aider à faire face aux menaces à la sécurité dans la région », devait-il ajouté.
Tout en renouvelant ses condoléances aux familles des victimes et ses vœux de rétablissement aux blessés, Eric Whitaker a assuré que « Nous continuerons d’être aux côtés du gouvernement et du peuple nigériens ».
De son côté, L’ambassadeur de France au Niger, Alexandre Garcia a déclaré que « nous avons fait part de tout notre respect aux Forces de Défense et de Sécurité du Niger qui n’hésitent pas à monter au combat, et notre admiration pour leur courage ».
« Nous avons exploré en compagnie de mon homologue américain, les voies et moyens de renforcement de la coopération entre les Forces militaires étrangères et les Forces nigériennes dans la lutte contre le terrorisme » , a indiqué le diplomate.
« J’ai réitéré au Président de la République, le soutien plein et entier des autorités françaises au Niger dans ce combat contre le terrorisme » , a-t-il ajouté.
Il est important également que la Force conjointe du G5 Sahel sur le terrain, « mène des opérations déterminées combattre le terrorisme. En tout cas nous sommes convaincus qu’ensemble nous vaincrons cette menace terroriste qui menace non seulement le Niger, mais l’ensemble de la région », a noté l’ambassadeur français.
Cette rencontre s’est déroulée en présence du Premier Ministre Brigi Rafini, du Ministre d’Etat chargé de l’Intérieur, Bazoum Mohamed, du Ministre de la Défense, Kalla Moutari et des responsables des Forces de Défense et de Sécurité.
Cette concertation intervient une semaine après l’embuscade « terroriste » près de Mangaize qui a coûté la vie à 28 militaires nigériens.
Dans le cadre de la coopération militaire, la France et les États-Unis disposent des forces armées au Niger.
