Du fait du coup d’État à Niamey, certains membres de la délégation nigérienne aux Jeux de la Francophonie n’ont pas pu rejoindre Kinshasa, où leurs compatriotes engagés dans les compétitions disent avoir encore plus à cœur de porter haut leurs couleurs.
“En peinture, l’œuvre est là mais pas l’artiste ; en sculpture, l’artiste est là mais pas son œuvre ; pour la chanson, il manque une partie du groupe musical”, énumère Ibrahim Mahamane, responsable du volet culturel de la participation nigérienne aux jeux qui se sont ouverts vendredi soir dans la capitale de la République démocratique du Congo.
A la cérémonie, la délégation nigérienne, forte de plus d’une centaine de personnes, avait fière allure, avec ses costumes orange, blancs et verts.
Le Niger est présent dans dix des 11 activités culturelles et huit des neuf disciplines sportives au programme des Jeux de Kinshasa, précisent M. Mahamane et sa collègue chargée des sports, Issaka Aissata Ibrah, rencontrés ce week-end par l’AFP dans le “village des Jeux”, installé sur le campus de l’Université de Kinshasa.
“Mais à cause de certains faits qui prévalent au pays, toute la délégation n’a pas pu se déplacer, une partie est restée au Niger”, explique M. Mahamane. Certains étaient arrivés parmi les tout premiers participants aux Jeux, mais d’autres avaient prévu de venir juste avant leur début officiel.
Or, le soir du mercredi 26, des militaires putschistes annonçaient à la télévision nationale nigérienne le renversement du président Mohamed Bazoum et la fermeture des frontières.
Le sculpteur Adamou Tchiombiano, dit Adams, a eu le temps de monter dans l’avion et d’arriver à Kinshasa. Mais sa sculpture censée être exposée aux Jeux, une grande girafe faite de morceaux de tongs de récupération, est restée bloquée à Niamey.
“Ça donne un coup de frein à ma carrière”, estime l’artiste, convaincu que sa girafe aurait fait sensation.
Ne se laissant pas abattre, l’artiste de 33 ans était dimanche à pied d’œuvre dans le grand atelier de sculpture de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa, en train de tailler à la tronçonneuse une grosse pièce de bois dur, pour en faire d’ici la fin des Jeux… une girafe.
“Ils m’ont accueilli à bras ouverts, c’est comme une famille”, se réjouit le jeune homme. “C’est dur, nous ressentons le poids de ce qui nous arrive”, dit M. Mahamane. Mais, ajoute-t-il aussitôt, “le Niger reste debout et on a la mission de le représenter”.
Dans leur “home” de l’université de Kinshasa, où les logements des étudiants ont été spécialement rénovés pour les Jeux de la Francophonie, les Nigériens prennent également sur eux lorsqu’ils évoquent leurs conditions d’hébergement, dont d’autres délégations se plaignent elles aussi.
L’électricité manque dans une partie de leur bâtiment, les transports sont compliqués et longs jusqu’aux sites des compétitions, il faut faire la queue parfois plus d’une heure pour manger…
En plus, ils n’ont pas pu voir vendredi soir dans le grand stade des Martyrs le spectacle son et lumière de la cérémonie d’ouverture. Après la parade des délégations et les discours, ils ont dû sortir et rejoindre aussitôt les bus qui les ramenaient au village.
“C’est une très grosse déception” pour M. Mahamane. “Mais nous voulons que les jeux réussissent, nous pouvons surmonter tout ça, nous sommes habitués aux difficultés”, dit-il. Les Nigériens veulent des médailles_. “On a 50 athlètes, on veut 50 médailles”_, lance Mme Ibrah. “Mais médailles ou pas médailles, nous aurons eu le mérite de représenter notre pays”, ajoute M. Mahamane.
Dans la cour du “home”, un cri de joie parvient d’une fenêtre. “C’est un de mes lutteurs, l’eau est revenue, cela faisait deux jours qu’il n’avait pas pu prendre de douche”, explique Mohamed Manzo, le coach de l’équipe nigérienne de lutte.
Levés à l’aube dimanche matin, lui et ses protégés étaient en compétition de lutte libre toute la journée dans un des gymnases flambant neufs du stade Tata Raphaël. Mais c’est surtout dans la deuxième moitié de semaine, en lutte traditionnelle africaine, qu’ils ont l’intention de faire des étincelles. Leurs éternels rivaux sénégalais ? “On va les battre”, assure le coach.
