A l’issue du sommet de Nouakchott, le président du Burkina Faso, SEM Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, président en exercice du G5 passera le témoin au Président mauritanien, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
La Force conjointe du G5 Sahel est composée de cinq mille hommes issus des armées des pays membres de cette organisation sous-régionale, à savoir le Burkina Faso, le Mali, la Mauritanie, le Niger et le Tchad. Mais son opérationnalisation est actuellement plombée par le manque de moyens financiers, militaires et logistiques. Des promesses des partenaires tardent à se concrétiser. « L’année 2019 a été marquée par la mise en œuvre de projets de développement dans les domaines de l’eau, de la santé, des chaînes de valeurs agropastorales dans chaque pays » dans le cadre d’un Programme d’investissements prioritaires (PIP), rappelle un document du secrétariat permanent du G5 Sahel.
En prélude à cette rencontre des chefs d’Etat du G5 Sahel, la tenue de la 7e session du Conseil des ministres se déroulera deux jours auparavant, à partir du dimanche 23 février.
