A Niamey, les inondations sont de plus en plus fréquentes et dramatiques. Ces derniers temps, plusieurs quartiers de la ville sont sous les eaux, avec de nombreux dégâts matériels et humains. Le bilan publié par la Direction générale de la protection civile révèle à quel point la situation devient inquiétante. 52 morts à la date du 11 aout et 36 blessés au niveau national. « Depuis l’installation de la saison pluvieuse, le pays enregistre, à ce jour, la perte de 897 têtes d’animaux, ainsi que la disparition de 14 mosquées, 22 classes, 11 boutiques, 14 greniers, mais aussi une tonne de vivres » note la DGPC. On déplore 50 305 personnes sinistrées/ 5 694 ménages ; 4 137 maisons effondrées ; 282 cases effondrées. Ces inondations ont touché 218 quartiers/Villages, 62 communes et 29 départements/villes. #Niger
Cette tragédie place la capitale Niamey à la seconde position dans le classement des régions les plus endeuillées, « avec au total 15 décès depuis le début de l’hivernage. La Région de Maradi maintient sa place de tête du peloton avec 16 morts.
