L’arène de lutte traditionnelle Yacouba Ango dit Kantou de Maradi a vibré ce mardi 23 avril 2025 au rythme des tambours et des acclamations, marquant l’ouverture solennelle de la 12ème édition de la Coupe du Président. Cet événement phare du calendrier sportif nigérien réunit les meilleurs lutteurs venus des huit régions du pays, dans une ambiance mêlant ferveur populaire et esprit de compétition.
Présidée par le ministre de la Jeunesse et des Sports, en présence de plusieurs autorités locales, administratives et coutumières, la cérémonie d’ouverture a été haute en couleurs. Danses folkloriques, démonstrations de force et discours officiels ont ponctué cette journée, soulignant l’importance culturelle et symbolique de la lutte traditionnelle au Niger.
Ils sont au total 16 lutteurs, soit deux représentants par région, à s’affronter dans l’arène de Maradi. Durant trois jours, ces champions régionaux livreront des combats acharnés, chacun nourrissant l’ambition de brandir le prestigieux trophée présidentiel et de graver son nom dans les annales de la discipline.
Des milliers de spectateurs, certains venus de très loin, ont investi les gradins pour soutenir leurs champions, dans une ambiance festive animée par les chants des griots et les encouragements passionnés du public.
Cette 12e édition de la Coupe du Président s’annonce comme un moment fort de communion nationale, mais aussi de célébration de l’identité nigérienne à travers une discipline profondément enracinée dans les traditions du pays.
