Le ministre des Affaires Etrangères, de l’Intégration Africaine et de la Coopération et des Nigériens à l’Extérieur, M. Kalla Ankouraou, a annoncé jeudi la tenue en mars 2020 à Niamey de la conférence ministérielle de l’Organisation pour la Coopération Islamique (OCI).
S’exprimant au cours d’un point de presse, le ministre en charge des affaires étrangères a expliqué que le choix de Niamey pour abriter ce sommet de l’OCI, émane d’une décision prise lors de la 46ème session du conseil des ministres des Affaires étrangères de l’OCI, tenue du 1er au 2 mars 2019 à Abu Dhabi, aux Emirats Arabes Unis.
« La tenue de cette conférence à Niamey est une question de justice pour le Niger, un pays dont la population est à plus de 98% musulmane », a fait valoir le ministre notant : ‘’notre pays qui marque son retour en force dans cette organisation a une histoire avec l’OCI qu’il a eu à diriger sur deux mandats’’. Le Nigérien Hamid Algabit avait occupé le poste de secrétaire général de l’institution pan islamique.
Le Niger abrite également l’Université Islamique, une institution créée et gérée par l’OCI sans compter la qualité des rapports qu’il entretient avec les autres institutions de l’OCI dont la Banque Islamique de Développement (BID) ou encore le Fonds de Solidarité Islamique (FSI).
Pour illustrer cette qualité de relation, le ministre Kalla Ankouraou a rappelé que, depuis sa création, la BID a accordé des financements de l’ordre de 4,5 milliards de dollars aux pays du sahel. Mieux, cette institution s’est engagée pour 200 millions de dollars aux côtés des Etats membres du G5 Sahel lors de la conférence des bailleurs de fonds de Nouakchott.
Le ministre a tenu à adresser les remerciements du Niger à tous les pays membres de l’OCI pour avoir fait l’option de placer leur confiance au Niger et particulièrement la Turquie qui a beaucoup usé de son influence afin que notre pays se voit attribuer l’organisation de cette conférence ministérielle.
« Nous avons demandé à organiser la conférence des ministres des affaires étrangères de l’OCI, parce que nous savions qu’après la tenue du sommet de l’UA nous pouvons réussir toute autre organisation », a indiqué le ministre en charge des Affaires Etrangères.
Parlant de cette conférence de l’Union Africaine, le ministre a précisé que le Niger a tenu à l’abriter car elle sera l’occasion de lancement de la Zone de Libre Echange continentale Africaine (ZLECAF). Dans le cadre de cette organisation, les préparatifs sont assez avancés. Il reste que l’ensemble des Nigériens s’en approprient et s’activent afin de tirer le meilleur parti de cette rencontre.
