Une attaque survenue le mercredi 08 Janvier 2024 au ‘’point triple’’ reliant le Bénin, le Burkina Faso et le Niger dans le nord du pays a fait une trentaine de morts dans le rang des forces armées béninoises. Il s’agit là du bilan le plus lourd de l’opération mirador mise en place par l’état béninois pour contrer la menace terroriste en 2022. «Nous poursuivons le ratissage. Pour le moment, 40 assaillants ont été neutralisés»; informe une source haut gradé de l’armée béninoise.
Cette zone, faut-il le rappeler, est depuis plusieurs années e proie à une menace terroriste de plus en plus croissante. En décembre dernier déjà une attaque similaire, menée cette fois ci dans le parc de la Pendjari avait fait trois morts dans le rang des militaires béninois. L’attaque a toute suite été revendiquée par le groupe de soutien à l’islam et au Musulmans, un groupe terroriste rattaché à Al-Qaida très présent dans la région sahélienne.
Plusieurs voix officielles, notamment politiques se sont prononcées à la suite de l’attaque, présentant leurs condoléances aux familles des victimes. Le chef d’état-major des armées béninoises, le colonel Faizou Gomina donne plus de détails sur l’attaque en précisant dans un communiqué que «la position attaquée était l’une des plus fortes et des plus militarisées de l’opération MIRADOR avec de nombreuses armes, de drones d’observation et un dispositif internet pour rendre compte rapidement de toute situation malveillante». Il s’agit là pour lui d’une preuve que «le matériel à lui tout seul n’est pas suffisant pour gagner un engagement». Aussi en appelle-t-il au professionnalisme et à la poigne des officiers supérieurs quant au commandement des troupes. «Vous devez avoir de la poigne pour commander vos hommes sur le terrain» affirme-t-il en précisant que cet incident ne fera pas plier l’armée béninoise qui se relèvera certainement de ce coup dur.
