La 43ᵉ réunion de la Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO), tenue ce mardi 11 mars 2025, et qui a rassemblé les chefs d’État-Major des armées des États membres, leurs chefs des opérations, ainsi que des experts du Département des Affaires politiques, de la Paix et de la Sécurité de l’organisation, a été marquée par une volonté accrue de renforcer la lutte contre le terrorisme dans la région et les tensions liées au retrait du Burkina Faso, du Mali et du Niger de l’organisation.
Durant trois jours, les discussions porteront sur l’évaluation des avancées sécuritaires depuis la dernière réunion, la gestion des forces en attente, ainsi que l’optimisation des capacités logistiques régionales. La Brigade antiterroriste de la CEDEAO figure parmi les priorités, tout comme la situation en Gambie et en Guinée-Bissau, où des missions sont en cours pour assurer la stabilité.
Les autorités présentes, ont insisté sur la nécessité d’une réponse collective face aux groupes armés.
Ainsi, le ministre nigérian de la Défense, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, a souligné l’urgence de renforcer les capacités de défense régionales et de mutualiser les ressources face à la montée du terrorisme.
Quant au général Christopher Musa, président du Comité des Chefs d’État-Major, lui a souligné l’urgence d’une coopération militaire renforcée, déclarant que « la menace du terrorisme et du crime organisé exige une réponse collective et concertée. »
De son côté, l’Ambassadeur Abdel-Fatau Musah, Commissaire aux Affaires politiques, à la Paix et à la Sécurité de la CEDEAO, a mis en avant l’expansion des groupes armés terroristes dans la région, nécessitant une réponse coordonnée et efficace.
En marge de la réunion, la CEDEAO a fait don de matériel informatique au National Defence College du Nigeria, témoignant de son engagement pour la formation des forces régionales. Les conclusions attendues pourraient redéfinir les stratégies sécuritaires en Afrique de l’Ouest.
