Le ministre nigérien de la Défense Alkassoum Indatou a assisté lundi soir à Niamey à la sortie d’une seconde compagnie amphibie dont se sont dotées les Forces armées nigériennes (FAN) pour mieux combattre le terrorisme, a-t-on constaté sur place.
Spécialement entraînée et équipée, cette compagnie, unité d’élite spécialisée dans la conduite d’opérations complexes aussi bien sur terre que sur les eaux, va manoeuvrer sur le fleuve Niger, de Gaya (dans le département de Dosso) à Ayerou (dans le département de Tillabéry), pour la sécurisation de l’ouest du pays. Cette compagnie dispose des vedettes rapides armées, faciles à manoeuvrer.
« Je crois que nous sommes sur la bonne voie pour avoir une armée moderne, capable de faire le travail quels que soient l’endroit, les circonstances et le moment », a déclaré M. Indataou.
Pour le chef de bataillon Issoufou Abdoulaye Souley, officier en charge des opérations, « les opérations amphibies sont des opérations maritimes et/ou fluviales. Elles prennent place dans les actions littorales interarmées et déclinent en quatre aspects : la projection de puissance, la projection de force, le soutien d’une coupure humide à une coupure sèche, et vice-versa ».
La première compagnie amphibie des FAN opère depuis cinq ans dans le lit du Lac Tchad, dans l’est du pays, pour traquer le groupe terroriste Boko Haram.
