Les Assemblées annuelles du FMI (Fonds monétaire international) et du Groupe de la Banque mondiale se sont tenues du 10 au 16 octobre 2022, aux sièges de ces institutions à Washington. En marge de ces rencontres de haut niveau, le Nigérien Abdoul Salam Bello a été poste d’Administrateur du Groupe de la Banque Mondiale. Une fierté pour le pays, et évidemment pour l’intéressé qui n’a pas manqué de remercier les Gouverneurs qui lui ont accordé leur confiance mais aussi les autorités de son pays pour leur soutien.
Vingt-trois (23) pays d’Afrique connaissent désormais leur représentant au sein du Groupe de la Banque Mondiale. Il s’agit du Nigérien Abdoul Salam Bello. A 45 ans, il a été désigné par les Gouverneurs du Groupe Afrique de l’institution de Brettons Wood. Celui qui était anciennement Suppléant, devient Administrateur-pays et sera le porte-voix de 23 nations du continent au sein du Conseil d’Administration de la Banque mondiale.
Une mission que Abdoul Salam Bello accepte avec humilité. Dans un série de tweets, il s’est notamment dit ‘’ Très honoré par la marque de confiance des Gouverneurs Groupe Afrique’’ et à réitéré ses ‘’vifs remerciements aux autorités de mon pays le Niger pour leur confiance et leur soutien qui renforcent ma détermination à réussir ma mission’’.
Le nouvel Administrateur de la BM était jusque-là Conseiller à la Banque mondiale auprès de l’administrateur du groupe francophone au Conseil d’administration et Senior Fellow au centre africain d’Atlantic Council à Washington. Spécialiste de l’élaboration des politiques publiques nationales et panafricaines, il a travaillé pour différentes institutions, dont la Banque islamique de développement et l’Union africaine. Entre 2007 et 2014, il a occupé plusieurs postes importants au sein d’institutions multilatérales dont celui de Chef de cabinet de l’Agence du Nouveau partenariat pour le développement de l’Afrique (AUDA-NEPAD) en Afrique du Sud, et celui d’Économiste à la Banque islamique de développement en Arabie saoudite. Auparavant, Monsieur Bello a travaillé dans le secteur privé, notamment en tant que Chef de projet adjoint chez Renault France en 2005. Il est diplômé d’Harvard et d’HEC Paris. À son CV, on peut aussi ajouter ‘’Auteur’’. Abdoul Salam Bello a signé deux ouvrages : ‘’La régionalisation de l’Afrique « Essai sur processus d’intégration et de développement »’’ et les ‘’Les Etats-Unis et l’Afrique (De l’Esclavage à Barack Obama )’’.
