Kulawa’’, (prendre soins de : en langue hausa), c’est le nom d’un projet d’investissement de 55 millions de dollars, soit environ 29,5 milliards de franc CFA lancé ce mardi par l’Agence Américaine de Développement (USAID) pour améliorer l’accès des femmes aux services de santé maternelles et infantiles au Niger.
Plus précisément, dans les trois régions du Niger à savoir Tillabéry (dans l’Ouest du Pays), Maradi (centre-sud), Zinder (Est du pays) où il sera mis en œuvre, le projet vise à encourager la planification familiale.
Prévu sur 5 ans, ce projet va concerner directement 17 Districts sanitaires comprenant 258 centres de santé intégrés (CSI), 1 293 cases de santé et plus d’un millier de relais communautaires.
Ayant présidé la cérémonie de lancement du projet, le ministre de la Santé, de la population et des affaires sociales, Dr.Idi Illiassou a indiqué que les objectifs visés par Kulawa « cadraient parfaitement avec les priorités du gouvernement ». Malgré les efforts du gouvernement, le taux de mortalité des enfants de moins de 5 ans demeure une préoccupation.
Présent à la cérémonie de lancement, l’ambassadeur des États-Unis au Niger, Eric Withaker s’est réjoui du lancement de ce projet qui fait de l’USAID, l’un des principaux bailleurs du ministère de la santé, a-t-il souligné.
