Le mercredi 17 février 2021, la république du Ghana a fait preuve de générosité et de soutien en offrant un appui de 100 000 boîtes d’encre indélébile à la commission électorale nationale indépendante (CENI). Réceptionné par le président de la CENI, Issaka Sounna, ce don vise à contribuer à une meilleure organisation du deuxième tour des élections présidentielles qui aura lieu le dimanche 21 février 2021.
Au cours de son allocution, l’ambassadeur de la République du Ghana au Niger, Jonathan Magnusen a souligné que, « le Ghana a observé, avec une immense fierté et satisfaction, le cheminement démocratique suivi par le peuple fraternel du Niger qui a abouti aux élections de décembre 2020, dont le résultat a été salué par les groupes de la société civile, les observateurs et la communauté internationale d’être généralement libres, transparents et crédibles ».
Selon Issaka Sounna, président de la CENI, cette contribution s’inscrit dans le cadre « de la coopération bilatérale entre le Niger et le Ghana, et au-delà, de la solidarité régionale entre pays de la CEDEAO ».
Pour rappel, le 11 février 2021 lors d’une session avec la presse et la société civile, le président de la CENI a fait noter que l’encre indélébile « a été citée parmi les quelques insuffisances relevées par la CENI, dans certains bureaux de vote lors du double scrutin du 27 décembre dernier. La mauvaise utilisation de cet outil de vote a provoqué un manque en fin de journée électorale dans certains bureaux de vote ».
