Publié le 26 novembre l’édition 2019, « Prosperity index » est un rapport annuel de l’Institut Legatum, qui permet aux pays du monde d’évaluer leurs forces et faiblesses afin de déterminer les choix économiques et stratégiques à mener pour renforcer les sociétés inclusives, les économies ouvertes et la capacité des populations à générer davantage de prospérité.
Ce classement se fait sur la base de 12 critères, dont la sécurité, la liberté individuelle, la gouvernance, le capital humain, l’environnement des affaires, l’infrastructure, l’éducation, la santé, la croissance économique, les conditions de vie, l’environnement naturel.
Cette année, ce sont 53 pays africains qui ont été classés et le Niger occupe la 42è place. Le pays dirigé par Issoufou Mahamadou gagne 2 places par rapport au classement 2018. Selon l’Institut Legatum qui établit ce classement, le Niger a connu une progression s’agissant de capital social et de liberté personnelle, mais demeure toujours faible en éducation. La plus grande amélioration par rapport à il y a dix ans concerne les conditions d’entreprise. Dans le classement mondial, le Niger loge au 151ème rang sur 167 pays.
Ledit rapport fait ressortir que parmi les pays africains, la République de Maurice occupe la première place au niveau du continent (44ème au niveau mondial), grâce à des scores remarquables en matière de préservation de l’environnement naturel, d’éducation, et de croissance économique. Les Seychelles occupent la deuxième place de ce classement (48ème au niveau mondial), vient ensuite le Botswana qui enregistre d’excellents scores dans les domaines de la santé.
Le Cap-Vert se positionne à la quatrième place ; l’Afrique du Sud à la cinquième place. La Tunisie, le Maroc et le Ghana referment le top 10 de ce classement en occupant respectivement les huitième, neuvième et dixième places.
Au cours des 10 dernières années, l’Afrique du Nord a amélioré sa prospérité économique, , grâce à l’amélioration de l’environnement économique, nous apprend ce même rapport.
Quant à l’Afrique subsaharienne, le rapport révèle que la prospérité est à son plus haut niveau, en raison de l’amélioration constatée dans l’ensemble de la région, en matière d’infrastructures et d’accès au marché, le résultat de l’amélioration des services portuaires, l’amélioration dans l’administration des frontières, ainsi que l’amélioration des conditions de vie.
Toutefois, elle reste la région la moins bien classée avec un déficit par rapport à la mondialisation qui a augmenté.
