Le gouvernement malien a approuvé la création d’une nouvelle carte nationale d’identité et d’un passeport électronique, tous deux biométriques. Cette décision s’inscrit dans une volonté commune des pays membres de l’Alliance des États du Sahel (AES) de standardiser les documents d’identité à l’échelle régionale.
L’objectif principal de cette harmonisation est de mieux encadrer les déplacements au sein de l’espace AES et de renforcer le contrôle sur la circulation des personnes. Dans un contexte régional marqué par des enjeux sécuritaires majeurs, notamment liés à la criminalité transfrontalière et au terrorisme, ces outils d’identification modernes sont perçus comme une réponse stratégique.
Le « e-passeport AES » et la « Carte d’identité biométrique AES » sont désormais une réalité après une étape de validation intervenue en novembre dernier. Conçus selon les standards internationaux, ces documents visent à améliorer la reconnaissance à l’échelle mondiale tout en garantissant une meilleure sécurité des données personnelles.
En adoptant ces décrets, le Mali confirme sa volonté de s’aligner sur les priorités régionales et d’investir dans des solutions technologiques pour renforcer la sécurité et la mobilité dans le Sahel
