Les autorités norvégiennes ont pris la décision de fermer leur ambassade à Bamako, la capitale du Mali. Une décision qui intervient, selon elles, après l’annonce de l’ONU de la fin de sa mission de maintien de la paix dans le pays ouest africain.
Le ministère des Affaires étrangères du Royaume a déclaré jeudi, dans un communiqué, que « La Norvège ferme son ambassade à Bamako. Le Conseil de sécurité de l’ONU a décidé que l’ opération de la MINUSMA au Mali prendrait fin avant la fin de l’année. Cela aura des implications sécuritaires pour la présence norvégienne et internationale au Mali ». Le document indique que l’ambassade de Norvège sera fermée d’ici la fin de l’année.
Selon la diplomatie du royaume, cette décision a été prise après avoir évalué la possibilité de sécuriser les intérêts norvégiens au Mali, compte tenu de la situation sécuritaire du pays.
L’ambassade à Bamako représentait la Norvège au Burkina Faso, en Mauritanie, au Niger et au Tchad, ainsi qu’au Mali. « Le ministère des Affaires étrangères travaille actuellement à résoudre la question du maintien de la représentation diplomatique de la Norvège dans tous ces pays après la fermeture de l’ambassade à Bamako », indique le communiqué.
« Le fait que nous fermions l’ambassade à Bamako ne signifie pas que nous mettons fin à notre engagement dans la zone du Sahel. Il y a de grands besoins humanitaires au Sahel et la Norvège continuera d’être un partenaire fiable à long terme pour la population civile. du Mali et d’autres pays du Sahel », indique la ministre des Affaires étrangères Anniken Witfeldt.
