Frontalière du Burkina Faso et du Mali, la région de Tillabéri est confrontée, depuis 2017, à des attaques armées attribuées aux groupes terroristes opérant dans le nord du Mali. Face à la recrudescence de ces attaques, le gouvernement avait instauré en 2017, l’état d’urgence dans cette région dite « la zone des trois frontières ». En mai dernier, 921 établissements d’enseignement primaire et secondaire ont été contraints de fermer en raison de l’insécurité dans cette région à l’ouest du Niger, a annoncé le ministre nigérien de l’Education nationale, Ibrahim Natatou, après une visite de supervision dans la région.
Sur les 921 écoles fermées, 891 écoles sont des établissements du primaire et 30 du secondaire, a précisé le ministre, notant que le gouvernement a donné des instructions pour que certains de ces élèves soient repris au niveau d’autres établissements des zones non affectées.
Dans un rapport publié en août 2022, le Fonds des Nations unies pour l’Enfance (UNICEF) avait déjà recensé 855 écoles du primaire et 35 écoles du secondaire fermées dans quatre régions du Niger à cause de l’insécurité. Il s’agit des régions de Tillabéri (ouest), de Tahoua (nord-ouest), de Maradi (sud-ouest) et de Diffa (sud-est).
Frontalières du Mali, les régions de Tillabéri et de Tahoua sont confrontées à des attaques armées attribuées aux groupes terroristes opérant dans le nord malien.
La région de Diffa, elle, est confrontée aux attaques du groupe Boko Haram opérant dans le nord du Nigeria.
Quant à la région de Maradi, elle est confrontée à des attaques attribuées à des “bandits armés” opérant dans les États voisins du nord-ouest du Nigeria.
