En décembre 2019, le dernier sommet des chefs d’Etat de la Cédéao à Abuja s’était conclu sur des sourires de façade. En coulisses, de nmbreuses rancœurs étaient pourtant vives : le recentrage unilatéral du Nigeria sur ses frontières au grand dépit de ses voisins, la colère froide des pays hors zone FCFA autour de la monnaie unique ouest africaine face au projet défendu par la Côte d’Ivoire mais aussi le feuilleton électoral en Guinée-Bissau.
Finalement, l’urgence posée par le Covid-19 a resserré les liens et les rangs au sein de la Cédéao. En choisissant de privilégier des réponses communautaires, les 15 chefs d’Etat et de Gouvernement ont choisi le langage de la raison et l’unité comme rempart à une crise sanitaire dont les répercussions économiques et sociales sont déjà très fortes dans la zone.
Plein de questions restent en suspens, notamment celles sur moyens financiers nécessaires pour juguler la récession en ligne de mire pour les pays de la Cédéao, si le monde reste confiné et surtout si le coronavirus continue sa propagation en Afrique.
Mais à un mois et quelques jours des 45 ans de leur communauté, les quinze retrouvent les fondamentaux de la Cédéao : un pour tous et tous pour un.
