Le journaliste Seyni Amadou, rédacteur en chef de la chaîne privée Canal 3 Niger, a passé la nuit du samedi 18 au dimanche 19 janvier à la police judiciaire (PJ). Il a été interpellé après la diffusion par la chaîne d’un baromètre classant les ministres selon leur performance au gouvernement. A la suite de cette diffusion le Ministère de la communication par arrêté ministériel annonçait vendredi 17 janvier 2025 le retrait de la carte de presse du journaliste pour une durée de trois mois et la suspension de Canal 3 Niger pour un mois. Toutefois le motif ayant conduit à cette double suspension n’a pas été mentionné dans l’arrêté.
Cette décision, du ministre de la Communication Sidi Mohamed Raliou, l , a suscité une mobilisation des organisations socioprofessionnelles des médias, ainsi que de la société civile du Niger, qui ont condamné les sanctions jugées « arbitraires » et « injustifiées ».
Face à cette situation, ce 20 janvier, le ministre a décidé d’abroger l’arrêté n° 000002/MCP/EN/SG/DCOM/DL du 17 janvier 2025, portant suspension de Canal 3 TV et retrait de la carte de presse du journaliste Seyni Amadou de Canal 3 TV.
