Ce 11 juillet, les forces de défense et de sécurité nigériennes ont déjoué une attaque terroriste dirigée contre le village de Tchiambongou, localité située dans la région de Tillabery. Le bilan provisoire, rendu public par un communiqué du ministre de la Défense, Alkassoum Indattou, fait état de 40 assaillants neutralisés, 4 militaires tués, 3 blessés et 5 civils tués.
D’après cette source, c’est aux alentours de 15 heures qu’une centaine de terroristes montés sur plusieurs dizaines de motos, ont attaqué le village. La rapide réaction des éléments de l’armée nigérienne a permis d’éviter un carnage, indique-t-on. Outre les terroristes neutralisés, plusieurs matériels ont été saisis. Il s’agit entre autres de 14 motos, 4 mitrailleuses, d’une dizaine de fusils AK 47 et d’une dizaine de téléphones portables, dénombrent les autorités nigériennes.
Le ministre a présenté en son nom propre et en celui du président de la République, ses sincères condoléances aux familles éplorées et souhaité un prompt rétablissement aux blessés. Il a en outre salué la bravoure des militaires.
Région située dans la zone dite des trois frontières, Tillabery est régulièrement confronté aux attaques de groupes terroristes qui sévissent dans la zone.
