L’état-major des armées françaises annonce ce jeudi soir la mort de deux cadres de l’EIGS. Deux hauts-responsables de l’organisation terroriste État islamique au Grand Sahara, abattus dans la nuit de mercredi à jeudi, par les forces de l’opération Barkhane, dans le nord-est du Mali.
C’est une opération éclaire qui a été réalisée par les soldats de Barkhane. Sur renseignement de drones américains, les Français ont pu identifier un campement du groupe État islamique dans le Grand Sahara. Il était situé vers la localité d’Inarabane, au sud de Ménaka. Bien que des troupes maliennes aient été postées aux alentours, Barkhane a agi seule, en raison de l’urgence. L’état-major parle d’une opération d’opportunité. « Un faisceau d’éléments nous a permis de penser qu’il y avait des responsables locaux dans ce camp, explique ce vendredi matin le colonel Pascal Ianni, porte-parole de l’ état-major. Le combat s’est engagé et les deux cadres ont été tués. »
Le premier est Rhissa al-Sahraoui, est un bras droit d’Abou Walid al-Sahraoui, le chef de l’EIGS. Ancien du Mujao, Rhissa gravite dans la sphère jihadiste depuis le début des années 2010. Il aurait joué un rôle important dans le recrutement et la formation de combattants armés. Et il aurait également participé à l’attaque d’Inatès contre les forces nigériennes, en décembre 2019, qui avait coûté la vie à plus de 80 soldats nigériens et provoqué une onde de choc dans le pays. Trois jours de deuil national avaient été décrétés. On pensait Rhissa al-Sahraoui arrêté par Barkhane au cours d’une opération en juin. Une information que l’état- major français n’avait pas confirmé.
L’autre cadre de l’EIGS que l’armée française dit avoir abattu est Abou Abderrahmane al-Sahraoui, aussi connu sous le nom d’Ayoub el-Mouhajir, Ayoub le migrant. Il jouait selon l’état-major un rôle d’autorité morale puisqu’il rendait la justice et prononçait les sentences les plus graves comme des condamnations à mort. Il est ce qu’on peut appeler « un vétéran » puisqu’en 2012, il était déjà membre du Mujao, mouvement pour l’Unicité et le Jihad en Afrique de l’Ouest (Mujao), qui deviendra un peu plus tard l’EI.
