Dans un geste conforme aux recommandations des Assises nationales pour la refondation, les autorités nigériennes ont annoncé, le mardi 1er avril 2025, la libération d’une cinquantaine de détenus, tant civils que militaires. Cependant, le président déchu Bazoum Mohamed est toujours maintenu en captivité. Cette mesure marque un tournant majeur dans le climat politique du pays et répond aux appels persistants en faveur de la justice et de la réconciliation nationale.
Parmi les bénéficiaires de cette décision figurent d’anciens hauts gradés des forces armées nigériennes, notamment le général Salou Souleymane, l’ex-commandant Oumarou Issifi, le lieutenant Ousmane Hambali et le capitaine Assane Chekaraou. Ces figures militaires, autrefois condamnées dans le cadre de diverses affaires, voient leur peine totalement levée.
En outre, un grand nombre d’ex-militaires ont également bénéficié d’une mise en liberté. Parmi eux, Yacouba Mahamadou, ex-caporal, Moussa Abdoulaye, ex-militaire, et plusieurs officiers supérieurs tels que Djibo Hamadou, colonel-major, ou encore Seydou Badie, ex-général de brigade. Cette décision inclut également des personnalités civiles comme l’ancien ministre Foumakoye Gado, Daouda Marthe et Kalla Moutari.
Cette mesure d’apaisement s’inscrit dans un contexte de refondation politique visant à rétablir la confiance entre les différents acteurs de la société nigérienne. Les Assises nationales, qui ont préconisé ces libérations, avaient pour objectif de réconcilier les institutions et la population, en mettant fin aux poursuites jugées politiques ou arbitraires.
