Le ministre des transports Oumarou Malam Alma a entrepris ce mercredi 28 juillet une visite aux sièges des différentes compagnies de transports voyageurs à Niamey.
Objectif : attirer l’attention des responsables de ces compagnies sur le respect des prescriptions du code de la route. Pour cause, depuis quelque temps, les accidents impliquant ces compagnies deviennent récurrents sur les différents axes nationaux. A titre d’illustration, au cours de ce mois de juillet, on dénombre au bas mot, 3 accidents impliquant la même compagnie (la Société des Transports Moderne Stm), occasionnant plus d’une dizaine de passagers morts et plusieurs blessés entre le 9 et le 18 juillet sur les axes Malbaza-Konni, Diffa-Zinder, et Kodo-Sina Koira.
« Faire de l’économie à travers les compagnies de transport, c’est bien, mais veiller à la sécurité des personnes et de leurs biens, c’est encore mieux », a indiqué Oumarou Malam Alma aux différents responsables des sociétés visitées.
De leur côté, les compagnies de transports ont saisi l’occasion de cette visite pour plaider le rétablissement des routes qui sont dans un état de dégradation, et des mesures d’assouplissement pour le secteur des transports voyageurs dans le cadre du code des investissements. Le ministre des transports a indiqué avoir pris bonne note de ces requêtes qu’il a promis de transmettre au gouvernement.
Notons que le gouvernement envisage de réduire à 25 % le nombre d’accidents routiers au Niger d’ici 2026. En rappel, les accidents routiers ont causé 929 morts en 2019 et 6 583 personnes blessés.
