12 jours après avoir reçu le prix Mo Ibrahim pour le leadership d’excellence en Afrique, le président Issoufou Mahamadou a encore vu sa gouvernance récompensée à Ouagadougou ce 19 mars 2021. Le futur ex-chef d’État s’est ainsi vu décerner le trophée de l’Africain de la décennie par un groupe d’organisation de la société civile, à l’issue du forum de la société civile pour la démocratie qui s’est tenu du 18 au 19 mars dernier dans la capitale burkinabè.
Les organisations de la société civile ont dit avoir porté leur dévolu sur le président Issoufou pour deux raisons. La première est sa décision de respecter les dispositions constitutionnelles de son pays et de ne pas briguer un troisième mandat alors que plusieurs de ses pairs dans la sous-région ont choisi la voie du tripatouillage institutionnel. La seconde est l’organisation d’élections globalement libres et transparentes qui conduiront pour la première fois à une alternance démocratique et pacifique au Niger.
Les organisations de la société civile ont également relevé la réalisation de divers projets structurants dans le cadre du programme de Renaissance et le leadership continental dont a fait preuve le président Issoufou, notamment dans le cadre de la zone de libre échange continentale (ZLECAF).
Ce forum a été également le lieu pour les organisations de la société civile en provenance de plusieurs pays, d’appeler les dirigeants africains à respecter les dispositions constitutionnelles et à défendre les valeurs démocratiques.
Selon le calendrier de la CENI, la passation du pouvoir entre le président sortant Mahamadou Issoufou et le vainqueur des élections du 21 février, Mohamed Bazoum, se tiendra le 2 avril prochain.
