Les militaires américains installés à la Base aérienne 101 de Niamey ont totalement et définitivement quitté le Niger, a appris l’ANP d’un communiqué de la Commission mixte de désengagement, créée dans le cadre du retrait annoncé des troupes américaines du Niger.
En effet, selon cette Commission, le processus de désengagement des troupes américaines du Niger, amorcé le 19 Mai 2024, s’est achevé à la Base aérienne 101 de Niamey dans la nuit du dimanche 7 au lundi 8 Juillet 2024 avec le départ des derniers soldats américains et l’ensemble de leurs équipements.
Au total, 776 militaires américains et 1593 tonnes de matériels et équipements militaires ont été concernés.
La cérémonie couronnant la fin de ce processus s’est déroulée en présence du Chef d’Etat-major des Armées du Niger, le Général de Brigade Moussa Salaou Barmou, et de l’Ambassadrice des Etats-Unis au Niger Mme Kathleen Fitz Gibbon et plusieurs membres de la Commission mixte de désengagement.
Dans le communiqué conjoint signé par le Chef d’Etat-major de l’Armée de Terre du Niger, le Colonel-major Maman Sani Kiaou, et le Général Kenneth Ekman du Département de la Défense des Etats-Unis d’Amérique, les deux parties se sont félicitées de la fin de la phase de Niamey « avant la date prévue et sans aucune complication ».
Pour ce qui reste de la phase de la Base aérienne 201 d’Agadez, « les responsables nigériens et américains sont résolus à assurer un retrait sûr, ordonné et responsable d’ici le 15 Septembre 2024 », note le communiqué qui rappelle, en outre, l’engagement des deux parties « à garantir la protection et la sécurité des forces américaines durant ce processus ».
Le communiqué a, enfin, reconnu « les sacrifices communs consentis par les forces armées des deux nations » tout le long du processus.
