Le départ des troupes françaises a eu un effet bénéfique sur la lutte antiterroriste du Niger, a fait savoir à Sputnik Salifou Mody, ministre nigérien de la Défense.
« En terme d’impact sur la sécurité dans notre pays, il faut dire que ce départ a, d’une part, permis de voir plus clair dans la lutte que nous menons contre le terrorisme, et d’autre part, de nous mettre devant nos propres responsabilités », a déclaré auprès de Sputnik Salifou Mody, ministre nigérien de la Défense.
Pour lui, le retrait des troupes françaises a « positivement impacté » la lutte du Niger contre le terrorisme.
Les derniers militaires français déployés au Niger ont quitté le pays fin décembre 2023. Ce désengagement a été acté par Emmanuel Macron en septembre, suite à l’arrivée des militaires au pouvoir et la destitution du Président élu Mohamed Bazoum.
Salifou Mody fait partie d’une délégation gouvernementale présidée par le Premier ministre Ali Lamine Zeine, arrivée à Moscou le 16 janvier.
Les domaines économique, social, la sécurité et la défense sont les axes principaux des échanges entre le Niger et la Russie, selon le ministre.
« C’est un début de coopération qui est en train de se renforcer », observe Salifou Mody.
