Le Président de la République du Niger Mohamed Bazoum s’est entretenu, ce lundi 25 Octobre, avec une délégation du Conseil de Sécurité de l’ONU, conduite par le Représentant spécial du Kenya au sein dudit conseil, président de cette instance de l’ONU pour la période d’octobre 2021, M. Martin Kimani.
A cette rencontre, on note la présence notamment du Ministre d’Etat nigérien aux affaires étrangères Hassoumi Massoudou et son homologue de la défense Alkassoum Indattou. Du côté onusien, outre le chef de la délégation, on note la présence des Représentants du Niger et de la France au Conseil de Sécurité.
A l’issue de la rencontre, M. Martin Kimani a indiqué à la presse que « nous sommes venus au Niger pour y comprendre la situation sécuritaire, savoir ce qui se passe au Sahel et prendre l’expérience du Niger [en matière de résilience, ndlr] ».
« Nous avons rencontré le Président Bazoum (…) qui a partagé avec nous l’expérience du Niger, tout en évoquant sa soif de la démocratie », a-t-il par la suite ajouté.
Le responsable onusien a ensuite indiqué que le Chef de l’Etat Nigérien « a mentionné tous les succès rencontrés dans le domaine de la démocratie, ce qui est important pour le peuple. Un peuple qui doit présenter un front uni pour venir à bout des défis tel que le terrorisme qui touche le Sahel et l’ensemble de l’Afrique ».
Le diplomate kenyan a, en outre, déclaré que « nous avons discuté des défis humanitaires et du développement lié au changement climatique », avant de souligner que « les membres du Conseil de Sécurité se félicitent de cet accueil et du message du Président Bazoum. Tous les membres du Conseil de Sécurité ont été très positifs et ont salué les avancés enregistrés par le Niger », dans ces domaines.
« Le Conseil de Sécurité, le Kenya et l’ensemble de ses pays membres souhaitent et doivent soutenir le Niger et le G5 Sahel dans la lutte contre le terrorisme sur la base de la solidarité. Car ce n’est qu’en luttant ensemble que nous pouvons venir à bout de ces défis pour l’Afrique et l’ensemble de la communauté internationale », a conclu l’actuel Président du Conseil de Sécurité de l’ONU.
