Tout est parti d’un contrôle de routine à la Banque agricole du Niger (Bagri) durant lequel les inspecteurs de la Cellule nationale de traitement des informations financières (Centif) ont mis en évidence des mouvements suspects d’importants fonds.
L’institution spécialisée dans le démantèlement des trafics en matière financière à constater que plusieurs milliards de francs CFA étaient logés sur le compte d’un agent subalterne de la banque. Plus surprenant encore, plusieurs centaines de milliers de francs CFA ont été retrouvés sur le compte du planton de la banque.
En poursuivant ses investigations, la Centif s’est rendue compte que plus de quatre milliards de francs CFA ont été soustraits des caisses de la Bagri. Très vite, le dossier a été transmis au tribunal de grande instance de Niamey. Le doyen des juges a interpellé six personnes, parmi lesquelles quatre cadres supérieurs de la banque, dont le directeur général et le directeur de la comptabilité. Un juge du pôle économique et judiciaire a ensuite été saisi et a placé les accusés sous mandat de dépôt.
