Pour agir de manière « rapide et efficace », le président du conseil de ville de Niamey, Oumarou Dogari, n’a pas perdu de temps pour se mettre à pied d’œuvre. Pour cette mission, il était accompagné de sa délégation, des députés, des FDS et également de la population civile. Chacun s’est mis au travail de manière acharnée et engagée afin de donner une image moins désolante à ces tombes. Certains se sont munis de râteaux et machettes, et d’autres brouettes et de balais.
Notons que c’est dans une certaine discipline et une forte participation i que s’est déroulé le travail. Celui de restaurer les tombes déjà effondrées et celles qui tendent à l’être. En seulement quelques heures, un résultat probant a pu être obtenu. Le Président du Conseil de ville de Niamey a souligné qu’« il est du devoir non seulement des autorités mais aussi de la population de s’investir dans de telles initiatives parce que le cimetière est notre ultime demeure. Et par conséquent, nous qui sommes appelés à quitter ce monde à tout moment sommes tenus d’agir dans ce sens » avant d’ajouter qu’il est « satisfait de voir la population de Niamey toutes catégories confondues répondre à l’appel que je lui aie lancé pour la restauration des tombes. Il est également important de rappeler que la présence des députés tous bords confondus à la cérémonie, témoigne la solidarité qui existe entre eux ».
Par ailleurs, presque chaque année, le cimetière musulman de Yantala paye de lourd tribu face aux intempéries. Les fossoyeurs ne cachent pas leur calvaire à chaque fois que la saison hivernale s’installe.
