Niger: coup d’envoi de la campagne électorale pour les élections générales du 27 décembre

Les campagnes électorales pour les scrutins présidentiel et législatifs du 27 décembre prochain se sont ouvertes au Niger. Trente candidats sont en lice pour le fauteuil de président et 359 pour les 171 sièges de députés. A l’issue de ces élections, un président démocratiquement élu passera le flambeau à un autre candidat civil, une première au Niger.

C’est parti pour trois semaines de campagne pour les élections présidentielles et législatives du 27 décembre prochain. En une nuit, la ville de Niamey a changé de couleur : les différentes équipes de 30 candidats détenus par la cour constitutionnelle ont nuitamment pris d’assaut les principaux carrefours et artères importantes de la capitale avec des affiches à l’effigie de leur candidat, ou des banderoles aux couleurs de leurs partis.

Aux sièges des partis politiques, des soirées sont organisées pour marquer le début de la campagne, avec des orchestres malgré la pandémie du Covid-19. La même ferveur est observée dans en province et les villages les plus reculés du pays où les 359 candidats aux législatives tenteront de convaincre leur électorat.

Conformément à la loi électorale que 17 ministres et plusieurs dizaines de fonctionnaires ont démissionné de leur poste pour se lancer dans la course. Pour des élections apaisées, une mission conjointe CEDEAO-Union africaine a séjourné à Niamey où un climat de méfiance règne entre les partis concurrents de ces élections. La mission les encourage à recourir au dialogue et exhorte les candidats à l’élection présidentielle à élaborer et signer un code de bonne conduite avant, pendant et après le processus électoral en cours.
