Les forces de sécurité et de défense du Mali ont voté lors du vote anticipé avant le référendum sur la nouvelle constitution, qui se tiendra le 18 juin dans une étape retardée vers un retour à un régime civil dans ce pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest ravagé par l’insurrection.
En mai dernier le porte-parole du gouvernement, le colonel Abdoulaye Maiga, a lu un décret à la télévision d’Etat disant que le pays serait appelé à « se prononcer sur la constitution » en juin.
« Les électeurs devront répondre par un ‘oui’ ou un ‘non’ à la question suivante », sur le référendum, a précisé le porte-parole. « Approuvez-vous le projet de constitution ? »
La nouvelle constitution est la première étape majeure des plans invoqués par l’armée pour justifier de continuer à gouverner jusqu’en 2024, après l’éviction de l’ancien président Ibrahim Boubacar Keita en août 2020.
Le porte-parole, qui avait déclaré que 2024 restait la « date limite » électorale lorsqu’il a annoncé le report, a déclaré en mai que le gouvernement avait « tenu parole ».
Des élections sont prévues en février 2024 pour rétablir un gouvernement civil à Bamako.
