Le Gouvernement nigérien veut investir 58 milliards de fcfa, soit environ 100 millions de dollars, pour connecter 2.111 villages ruraux aux services de la téléphonie mobile et de l’internet haut débit, à travers le ‘’projet villages intelligents pour la croissance rurale et l’inclusion numérique (PVI)’’.
C’est le directeur général de l’agence nationale pour la société de l’information (ANSI, institution gouvernementale) qui a avancé ces chiffres en procédant au lancement dudit projet, ce jeudi 3 Décembre à Niamey.
Selon M. Ibrahim Guimba Saidou, ce projet qui sera exécuté sur une période de six (6) ans, servira au financement des infrastructures numériques, l’organisation de campagnes d’éducation numérique et financière, la modernisation des moyens de paiement des coopératives d’agriculteurs et d’éleveurs pour développer les transactions dématérialisées et la création de plateformes de données pour les agriculteurs et les éleveurs.
Le projet devait également faciliter l’installation des services de transactions financières numériques dans les zones rurales les plus desservies, a expliqué Monsieur Ibrahim Guimba Saidou.
Environ 1.400.000 personnes issues des villages sélectionnés vivant essentiellement de l’agriculture et de l’élevage bénéficieront de cette offre du gouvernement, a précisé le responsable gouvernemental.
Selon cet officiel nigérien, ce projet contribuera également à la limitation de la propagation de la covid-19, en ce sens qu’il accéléra l’adoption des paiements mobiles pour réduire les transactions en liquide ‘’moins sûres et susceptibles de contribuer à la propagation du virus à travers les rapprochements sociaux.
