Le président ivoirien Alassane Ouattara et son homologue ghanéen John Dramani Mahama ont lancé un appel conjoint aux pays membres de l’Alliance des États Sahéliens (AES) le Mali, le Burkina Faso et le Niger ce mercredi 5 mars 2025 les invitant à réintégrer la Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (Cédéao) lors d’une rencontre tenue au Palais présidentiel d’Abidjan.
Les deux chefs d’État ont exprimé leur préoccupation face à l’isolement de ces nations sahéliennes, soulignant les avantages d’une coopération régionale élargie. Le président Mahama a déclaré : « Il est préférable de faire partie d’un groupe de 15 que de rester isolé à trois. Il y a toujours des possibilités de ramener nos pays frères au sein de la Cédéao. » Ils ont également réaffirmé leur engagement à apporter une assistance aux pays membres de l’AES, tout en les encourageant à reconsidérer leur position vis-à-vis de la Cédéao. Ils ont souligné que l’unité et la coopération régionales sont essentielles pour assurer la stabilité, la sécurité et le développement économique de la sous-région.
Le président Ouattara a abondé dans ce sens, mettant en avant l’importance d’une Cédéao unie pour le bien-être économique et social de la région. Il a exhorté les nations de l’AES à saisir cette opportunité pour renforcer la coopération régionale et assurer une stabilité durable en Afrique de l’Ouest.
Rappelons que les dirigeants du Mali, du Burkina Faso et du Niger ont justifié leur retrait immédiat de la Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO), par le fait que l’organisation ne répond plus aux aspirations de leurs peuples et d’être devenue, sous l’influence de puissances étrangères, avant de qualifier leur décision de retrait « irréversible », marquant ainsi une rupture nette avec la CEDEAO.
Cette initiative intervient dans un contexte où la Cédéao a officiellement acté, le 29 janvier 2025, le retrait du Burkina Faso, du Mali et du Niger de l’organisation, tout en maintenant ses portes ouvertes au dialogue. Les dirigeants ivoirien et ghanéen espèrent que cet appel conjoint encouragera les pays concernés à reconsidérer leur position et à réintégrer la communauté régionale, renforçant ainsi l’intégration et la stabilité de l’Afrique de l’Ouest.
