La représentation de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) au Niger a remis mercredi à Niamey un don de 100.000 masques au gouvernement nigérien pour soutenir ses efforts visant à lutter contre le COVID-19, a-t-on appris de sources officielles à Niamey.
Une cérémonie de remise de don a été organisée en présence du ministres nigériens de la Santé, Idi Illiassou Mainassara, du ministre de la Formation professionnelle et technique, Tidjani Abdoulkadri et de la représentante de l’OMS au Niger, Anya Blanche.
« Ce geste de l’OMS n’est pas le premier dans le cadre de la lutte contre la pandémie au Niger », a rappelé M. Mainassara, ajoutant que depuis le début de la pandémie, l’organisation onusienne avait déjà apporté au Niger un appui estimé à près d’un milliard de francs CFA (environ 1,7 million de dollars américains).
En date de mercredi, le Niger, qui a enregistré son premier cas de coronavirus le 19 mars dernier, compte 1.097 cas positifs au coronavirus sur 8.435 tests réalisés. 976 patients sont guéris, 53 sont en cours de traitement et 68 sont décédés du Covid-19.
