Comme attendu, le groupe Orano, a présenté ce 26 juillet les résultats financiers du premier semestre 2024. Et comme il fallait s’y attendre, les résultats sont assez négatifs avec des pertes estimées à 133 millions d’euros.
Ce résultat est dû principalement aux difficultés d’exploitation que rencontre le géant français du combustible nucléaire depuis l’arrivée au pouvoir du Conseil National pour la Sauvegarde de la Patrie (CNSP) au Niger.
Cette perte, explique David Claverie, Directeur financier du groupe est principalement due au retrait du permis d’exploitation du gisement d’Imouraren en Juin dernier, mais aussi aux difficultés que rencontre la Somaïr, filiale nigérienne d’Orano.
Ces situations ont obligé le groupe français, actionnaire majoritaire de la Somaïr avec 64% des actifs, à vendre une partie de ses stocks français afin de maintenir l’outil industriel à Arlit. On apprenait déjà le 09 juillet dernier que la Somaïr était en grande difficulté financière liée principalement à la commercialisation difficile de l’uranium qui, du fait de la situation politique ne pouvait être exportée.
Il faut rappeler que l’activité minière sur le site d’Imouraren emploie environ 700 personnes en emplois directs et indirects.
