L’ancien Président de la République, M. Issoufou Mahamadou, lauréat du Prix Mo Ibrahim a présenté son trophée au Président de la République, M. Mohamed Bazoum ce vendredi 19 mai 2023, dans l’après-midi au centre international des conférences Mahatma Gandhi de Niamey, devant un parterre d’invités venus de plusieurs pays voisins, ainsi que des personnalités politiques, civiles et militaires du pays.
Issoufou Mahamadou, faut-il le souligné, est le sixième lauréat du Prix Mo Ibrahim, qui récompense et met à l’honneur le leadership africain d’excellence. Le Prix Mo Ibrahim distingue des dirigeants africains exceptionnels qui, au cours de leur mandat, ont développé leur pays et renforcé la démocratie et l’Etat de droit pour le bénéfice de l’ensemble de leurs concitoyens.
Dans sa citation, le 28 Avril dernier à Nairobi au Kenya, lors de la remise de ce prix, le Comité du Prix souligne le leadership ‘’exceptionnel de l’ancien Président Issoufou, qui a conforté la croissance économique au bénéfice de ses concitoyens, fait preuve d’un engagement indéfectible en faveur de la stabilité régionale et défendu sans relâche le respect des règles constitutionnelles et démocratiques’’.
Dans son allocution à cette occasion de la présentation de ce prestigieux trophée a son égard ainsi qu’au peuple Nigérien, le Président Mohamed Bazoum a bien voulu rappeler qu’Il y’a de cela un peu plus de 2 ans ‘’dans cette même salle, à l’occasion de mon investiture comme Président de la République j’ai eu pour vous des mots tellement élogieux qu’il me paraît difficile d’en dire davantage aujourd’hui, même à l’occasion d’une cérémonie spéciale d’hommages’’.
‘’Mais l’événement qui nous réunit cet après-midi est trop beau pour que je n’en saisisse pas l’occasion pour m’exprimer, dussé-je pour cela me répéter d’une certaine façon. En vérité, le risque que je me répète est peut-être peu probable, tant il est vrai que ces deux années m’ont permis de vous connaître encore plus et de découvrir combien vous êtes pénétré des valeurs de la démocratie et des idéaux de la République’’, a reconnu le Chef de l’Etat.
Il a par la suite, affirmé a son prédécesseur que les Nigériens sont ‘’très reconnaissants de ce que vous avez fait pour notre pays ; ils sont très fiers pour ce que vous représentez en Afrique’’, tout en expliquant que ‘’cette alternance que vous avez facilitée, a donné à notre pays notoriété et prestige sur le plan international’’.
Sur le plan national, a ajouté le Président de la République, elle aura pour effet de ‘’dédramatiser la bataille pour la conquête du pouvoir, dès lors qu’il est désormais établi qu’on peut y accéder de façon pacifique’’, avant de reconnaitre a lauréat MO IBRAHIM ‘’votre nom est passé à la postérité pour avoir été associé à un geste tout d’élégance et de panache, et les générations futures en écriront la geste, fabuleuse. Votre geste restera un grand défi pour tous ceux qui viendront après vous. Ils n’ont plus d’autre choix que de respecter la constitution et éviter à notre pays les tribulations inhérentes à la tentation du pouvoir éternitaire’’.
‘’Le prix Mo Ibrahim que vient de vous décerner la prestigieuse Fondation éponyme est une belle consécration’’, a déclaré le Chef de l’Etat, avant d’exprimer au nom du peuple nigérien ses ‘’sincères remerciements à cette fondation tout en vous souhaitant longue vie’’.
‘’Je me réjouis des témoignages exténués a l’occasion de la remise de ce trophée le 28 avril dernier a Nairobi au Kenya. Comme je le réjouis de ceux exténués aujourd’hui par vous ici’’, déclaré l’ancien Président Issoufou Mahamadou lors de son adresse, après avoir remercié le Chef de l’Etat Mohamed BAZOUM qui a, selon lui, accepter de ‘’bien vouloir honorer de sa présence a cette cérémonie, et accorder sa tenue’’.
Selon lui, Ce prix est le ‘’fruit d’une œuvre collective. Je n’en suis pas l’exclusif Lauréat, il appartient à tous ceux qui se sont battus à mes côtés pendant 20 ans d’opposition. Il appartient aussi à tous ceux qui m’ont accompagné dans l’exercice de mes fonctions pendant 10 ans à la tête de notre pays’’.
C’est ainsi que l’ancien Président Mahamadou Issoufou rejoint le cercle restreint des lauréats du Prix Mo Ibrahim, qui comprend la présidente Ellen Johnson Sirleaf du Libéria (2017), le président Hifikepunye Pohamba de Namibie (2014), le président Pedro Pires du Cap Vert (2011), le président Festus Mogae du Botswana (2008) et le président Joaquim Chissano du Mozambique (2007). Le président Nelson Mandela d’Afrique du Sud a été nommé premier lauréat honoraire en 2007.
A noter que plusieurs personnalités Nigériennes et étrangères, présentes a cette cérémonie, ont tenues à faire des témoignages des parcours glorieux de l’ancien Président Issoufou Mahamadou, et aussi la présence très remarquée de l’ancien Président Burkinabé Roch Marc Christian Kaboré et de l’Assemblée Nationale Malienne, Alioune Nouhoum Diallo fort de ses 85ans.
