La célébration du 76ème anniversaire de l’adoption de la Déclaration Universelle des Droits de l’Homme (DUDH) se poursuit à Niamey. Ce vendredi 13 décembre, une initiative en partenariat avec le Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies aux droits de l’homme au Niger a été lancée afin de renforcer la sensibilisation aux droits fondamentaux. Le ministère de la Justice a accueilli la cérémonie inaugurale de quatre totems, symboles forts de l’engagement du Niger en faveur de la promotion des droits humains.
Ces monuments de cinq mètres de haut, installés au ministère de la Justice et dans d’autres lieux stratégiques, sont fabriqués avec des matériaux durables, et portent des messages clés de la DUDH, invitant la population à s’impliquer activement dans leur défense.
Pour Omer Kebiwou, représentant du Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies aux droits de l’homme au Niger, ces totems sont des « symboles vivants et accessibles » qui rappellent que les droits de l’homme doivent être « vécus, compris et défendus par chaque individu« .
Le ministre de la Justice, Alio Daouda, a salué cette initiative, soulignant l’engagement du Conseil national pour la sauvegarde de la patrie (CNSP) à faire des droits de l’homme un pilier fondamental de la société. Il a appelé à une transformation radicale dans la compréhension et la défense de ces droits, affirmant que « tous les hommes, partout où ils sont, doivent être libres et égaux en droits« .
Cette cérémonie a rassemblé des représentants de la Cour d’État, du ministère de la Justice, de la société civile et d’autres invités.
