Le Sabre national, compétition emblématique du Niger, a connu un tournant majeur lors de sa 45ème édition. Organisé chaque année depuis 1975, cet événement met en lumière la diversité du Niger et renforce le sentiment d’unité nationale.
Tenue à Dosso dans l’arène Salma Dan rani sous le thème « labou sanni, zantchan kassa », cette édition a vu s’affronter les lutteurs des huit régions du pays. C’est finalement Abba Ibrahim de Niamey qui a remporté le titre suprême, détrônant ainsi le sextuple champion Kadri Abdou dit Issaka-Issaka de Dosso ce dimanche 29 décembre 2024.
Le Premier ministre, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, a remis le sabre et une récompense de 12 millions de FCFA au nouveau champion. Kadri Abdou, vice-champion, a pour sa part, reçu 7 millions de FCFA.
Cette victoire historique a été célébrée avec faste à Dosso, en présence de nombreuses personnalités nationales et internationales notamment les premiers ministres du Mali et du Burkina faso, avant de se poursuivre dans la capitale Niamey. Au-delà de l’aspect sportif, le Sabre national est un vecteur d’unité nationale et de promotion des valeurs traditionnelles nigériennes. Cette 45ème édition a une nouvelle fois démontré l’importance de cette compétition dans le cœur des Nigériens.
Le rendez-vous est pris pour la 46ème édition, qui se tiendra à Tahoua en décembre 2025. Par ailleurs, des concertations sont en cours entre homologues de la Confédération de l’AES qui, selon le premier ministre burkinabè, aboutiront à l’organisation des Jeux de l’Alliance des États du Sahel.
