De toute évidence, la propagation du coronavirus et les mesures restrictives mises en place par tous les pays pour réduire les mouvements de personnes, n’empêchent pas les candidats à la migration de prendre le périlleux chemin du désert. A en croire l’Organisation internationale de la migration (OIM), pas plus tard que la semaine dernière, ce sont 250 migrants parmi lesquels des enfants qui ont été secourus et qui ont dans la foulée été mis en isolement pendant 14 jours dans la ville d’Agadez où ils ont été acheminés.

C’est près de Madana, à la frontière du Niger avec la Libye que ces 250 migrants en détresse abandonnés par leurs passeurs ont été retrouvés et secourus par l’Agence Onusienne. Outre leur mise en quarantaine, l’OIM a fourni “de la nourriture et de l’eau” aux migrants dont 104 venaient du Nigeria, 53 du Ghana et 34 du Burkina. Un bébé qui fait partie du groupe “est actuellement assisté par le personnel de protection de l’OIM”, assure-t-elle.
764 autres migrants dont 391 du Niger, 140 du Mali et 101 de Guinée, viennent d’achever une « période de quarantaine de 14 jours » à Assamaka, à la frontière avec l’Algérie. Parmi eux, on dénombre des enfants, des femmes enceintes et des personnes blessées, détaille l’OIM. L’agence indique avoir mis en place des sites de transit temporaires “pour mettre en quarantaine les nouveaux arrivants” à la frontière avec l’Algérie.
L’OIM a également fait part de son inquiétude face au nombre important de migrants qui continuent d’arriver au Niger en dépit de la fermeture des frontières terrestres décrété par les autorités pour lutter contre la propagation du nouveau coronavirus.
